Frequently Asked Questions • Can I place an order in advance, and request a specific date for it to be shipped? Yes, but keep in mind that we ship packages out Monday through Thursday Only. Your order should be followed by a sepereate e-mail including the date you wish to have your order shipped, and your contact information. Please send any special requests for delivery to : kentislandcrab@comcast.net. In the event that the size or quantity ordered is unavailable on the selected date, someone will contact you with a substitute or a rescheduling of delivery. • Can deliveries be made on holidays? No, most carriers close on holidays. This could delay the package transit time and jeopardize quality and freshness. • Does someone have to sign to accept the package when it is delivered? No, ALL packages are sent without a signature required for delivery. We accept the carrier's delivery confirmation as proof of delivery. • Where were the crabs I'm ordering caught? Local, “Maryland,” season runs April 1 thru December 15. During this time most crabs are local. During the off season and when our local production is slightly off, the crabs are shipped in from nearby states. • How will my Order be Prepared? We suggest purchasing your crabs steamed, live crabs are extremely perishable and it should be expected that as many as 25% will not survive shipping. All other products will ship equally well either steamed or raw. Every order will include instructions to reheat and pick our steamed crabs. • How many crabs should I order? We normally recommend 1 bushel per every 10 guests. • How many crabs come in a bushel? #1 Males about 5 ½ dozen • How will my order be packaged? To ensure your order arrives in the freshest condition possible, each order is packaged in a Styrofoam cooler with enough refrigerants to maintain adequate temperature during shipment and several hours therafter. Your package should be opened immediately upon receipt and prepared or properly refrigerated. How to you pick and eat Maryland steamed crabs? HERE How do you shuck and eat raw oysters? HERE |
